Helping Your SEO Friends Out

Everyone in the online marketing community knows how SEO works. You’ve probably seen the SEO team lurking around the corridors of your company – quiet, wearing glasses, jittery. I’ve often wondered why these poor guys suffer so, and then I realized that it is as a result of the stress of their work. They sift through heaps of information, literally, to come up with recognizable search terms and complex equations that discuss the trends of your user base. They are smart, and some of them are even getting rich, because let’s face it, theirs is a skill that few of us are blessed with, but they don’t have a chance to brag to girls in Jacuzzis about their talents because they are stuck underground like moles that are forced to digest dry facts 24/7. This should tug at your heartstrings already, but if it doesn’t, consider this. If they have less issues sorting out the SEO for your site, they will have more time for other things – meaning they spend less time on your work, and therefore, you end up spending less money. Are those tears in your eyes now? Whether they are tears of joy or sadness at the plight of the SEO guys, fact is, you can do quite a lot that will ease your SEO expenses.
Keep your ear to the ground
SEO is designed to help you pop up first in lists, but first you need to get ahead of the competition. You cannot begin to compete if you don’t know what your competition is offering. So, take some time to browse sites that offer something similar to yours, and make a note what kind of marketing strategies they are using, what they offer and so on. By having an idea what they are doing, you can model your site on common features and then expand on their weakness. Now you can focus on design instead of expecting the SEO guys to pull off a miracle. You can’t expect them to do it all alone – maths and figures can only go on so far, at the end of the day you need human creativity to make sure that the SEO works.
Streamline your content
Get your content writers to improve their keyword density. SEO and Page Rank works by checking keyword density – if the user searches “baby kitten photos”, and your content features all three more than once, you will rank higher. Dense writing will rank better, but once again be creative and don’t get boring. And then your SEO team will breathe easier.
