AJAX – All That You Want To Know

Ajax is a web programming language that is mainly usable in the creation of various web applications. It stands as an abbreviation for the terminology referred to as Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. There are several functions that are unique in applications created with this method of web development. You can use an application to send and even bring back data from a server; and this can be carried out as a separate application in the background without affecting the display page in any way. This was conceptualized by Jesse James Garrett from a San Francisco based web design firm. In his article he had also laid down the name of this program.  The basic concept and idea of Garrett centered on the need for programs that could be used just as a desktop application.

There is a group of technologies functioning within Ajax. It uses a combined effect of features from HTML and CSS with which information can be styled and marked up. In this DOM or Document Object Model can be accessed along with JavaScript to enhance the dynamic display of information. Users can also interact with this available data. Data exchange in an asynchronous method is possible between the browser and the server; this is done by a combined use of JavaScript and XMLHttprequest. In this full page reloading or refreshing will not be required.  At the time this program was developed websites comprised of HTML pages. Any action of the user required a re-loading of the page from the server. This process was complicated and lacked efficiency. After each time a page was refreshed there was a partial change occurrence in the page content; in case of sending data the same had to be sent wholly. Besides making it difficult for users this would also placed excessive load on the servers.

This constant gap of direct access to information created difficulty; users found it time consuming to access their desired applications and at a faster pace when required. With the use of Ajax there was a far more relaxed approach that was experienced by users with less time needed to access their applications and the information they sought. It automatically led to a great deal of popularity for the implementation of Ajax. In this there were several applications included which were incorporated in a combination to provide an unhindered experience of computing for users. The basic page structure and the display of a page were designed with the use of XHTML and CSS; XML was used for data manipulation methods and XMLHttpRequest was used for data retrieval. The use of JavaScript was incorporated to ensure a coordination of all these elements with one another. The use of Ajax became common through various applications in complete harmony with the original title of the title Jesse James Garrett had written – Ajax A New Approach To Web Applications.

This program was a beginning for a new era of computing without any complicated data access and transfers.
